Fall Concert at UPEI

Fall Concert

The Stonepark Grade 9 Band has been invited to perform a concert with the UPEI Wind Symphony on Thursday, October 25th at 7:30 PM at the Dr. Steel Recital Hall on the UPEI campus.  

Admission is $10 for Adults and $5 for Students.  Proceeds will be divided equally between the UPEI Music Department and the Grade 9 Band Travel Fund.  *There is no admission fee for performers

The Grade 9 Band students have been working hard to prepare their selections for this concert and we look forward to seeing all of you in the audience at UPEI on October 25th!

Frozen Cookie Dough Fundraising Campaign




The band students are going to be selling frozen cookie dough again this year! This is the most important fundraiser for the Stonepark band program, and the product will be delivered to customers on November 21st,  just in time for Christmas baking.

Cookie dough catalogues and order forms are being distributed to band students this week. Students will be asked to take orders until Thursday, October 25th. Cash and cheques are accepted, and cheques can be made payable to Stonepark Intermediate. 

The cookie dough, which comes in tubs or pre-portioned in boxes, will be delivered to Stonepark, and will be available for pick up by sellers in the Stonepark cafeteria from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21st.

All profits from this fundraiser will be shared equally among participants, and will go toward the cost of extra-curricular activities and band field trips at the grade 7, 8, and 9 levels. Band field trips are getting more expensive each year, and it is our hope that this campaign will help to ensure that all students have an opportunity to participate in all special events.  Some parents prefer to make an equivalent cash donation, and such donations are welcome as well.

In past years, band students have been able to fund raise over $5000 for the band program during this short campaign.  Each student is asked to set a personal goal of selling 5 tubs or boxes in order to help us to achieve this year’s goal.  Prizes will be offered at various sales levels.

Participants may also wish to shop online at QSP.ca (online code 4344800 or enter Stonepark Band) and to use PayPal and Major Credit Cards.  Online sales will count toward students’ sales goals. Students who sell products in online sales will also be entered into prize draws.  Items purchased online will also be delivered to the school on November 21st, and will have to be picked up by students to be delivered to customers.

We will need parent volunteers to help with this fundraiser (sorting orders, collecting payments, and preparing the order forms to send to QSP on October 25th, and organizing and distributing cookie dough at the school on November 21st). A volunteer sign-up form will be posted on the blog later this week.

Please watch for the catalogues which will be sent home with all band students this week.

Grade 9 AM band is canceled tomorrow

Just a reminder to grade 9’s that early am band is canceled for tomorrow (Oct. 11) due to the Duke bike trip.

Jazz Band

There will be a Jazz Band meeting this Wednesday, September 26th during reading period.  Jazz band is open to interested grade 8 and 9 band students.

Jazz Band rehearsals will begin next Friday, October 5th.

Jazz band will once again be run as an enrichment pull-out program this year.  Students will be responsible for letting teachers know which class they will be missing for Jazz band each Friday and they will be expected to catch up on any work missed.

Students will receive a schedule for Jazz Band rehearsals in Google Classroom following our first meeting.

Grade 7 Full Band Rehearsal

The Grade 7 band students are making excellent progress and they are asked to attend the first full band rehearsal of the year on Monday, September 24th from 12:35-1:15 pm.  All grade 7 band students will need to bring their instruments, band books, a pencil, and, if possible, the band booklets they received at band camp.

Attendance will be taken and entered in SAS at the beginning of the rehearsal.  You will see this assignment in SAS with the title 7 Band Sept. 24th.  Band rehearsals are compulsory, so unexcused absences will be addressed.  The marks that are entered are FORMATIVE which means that they will not directly affect the students’ band marks,  Students who are unable to attend for any reason are asked to let me know so that the correct code (absent, excused, late, etc.) can be entered.
